AirtelTigo has settled a GH1 million debt with the Electricity Company of Ghana. The operations team from ECG’s Accra West Region invaded the company’s offices first thing Monday morning, demanding payment of past-due invoices.

According to the ECG’s enforcement team, AirtelTigo has settled its GH1 million debt. After a lengthy negotiation, the managers of ECG and the telecommunications provider agreed that AirtelTigo must pay GH1 million in advance or risk being disconnected.

On Monday, March 20, 2023, the ECG launched its nationwide exercise to disconnect homes and companies that have failed to pay debts for power supplies they owned.

Because of its $1 billion debt to Independent Power Producers (IPP), the company declared a revenue mobilization effort to raise money in order to avoid shutting down.

To ensure that all of the ECG’s senior management and staff can take part in the exercise, they closed all district, regional, including the ECG’s headquarters, regional offices, district offices, and everything except the Customer Service Center until April 20, 2023.
