Chairman of the Appointments Committee of Parliament, Bernard Ahiafor, has attributed the recent tensions within the Committee to lingering frustration from the opposition over their unexpected election loss.
In an exclusive interview with TV3’s Alfred Ocansey on February 3, Ahiafor dismissed the Minority’s concerns as politically motivated, insisting that their reactions stem from disappointment rather than genuine grievances.
“It is rather unfortunate that the Minority side are still bleeding from the election wound because their number was not expected by them,” he stated, suggesting that the opposition has yet to come to terms with their reduced strength in Parliament.

His comments come amid growing friction between the Minority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, and the Committee’s leadership, particularly regarding the Clerk to the Appointments Committee, Gifty Jiagge-Gobah.
Afenyo-Markin has openly criticized her handling of Committee affairs, but Ahiafor believes these attacks are misplaced.
“For me, he (Afenyo-Markin) is acting out of frustration as a result of the election defeat. They are bleeding from the election defeat,” Ahiafor reiterated, implying that the Minority’s aggressive stance is a reaction to their diminished influence in Parliament.
Beyond the political back-and-forth, Ahiafor firmly stood by the Clerk, rejecting any calls for her removal. “I will not recommend removal of the Clerk.
Actually, I want to apologise on behalf of the Committee to her,” he declared, reaffirming his confidence in Jiagge-Gobah’s role.
