Abronye DC Defends Himself Against NIB Probe, Accuses Them of Double Standards

Kwame Baffoe, known widely as Abronye DC, the Bono Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has leveled serious accusations against the National Investigations Bureau (NIB), claiming that the institution is biased in its handling of investigations.

His comments came during an interview with Channel One TV, following his invitation to assist in an investigation by the NIB.

Abronye DC is being asked by the NIB to provide evidence regarding allegations he made about President John Mahama.

Specifically, he is required to support his claims that Mahama is withholding GH₵550 million intended for dismissed appointees at the Jubilee House.

In his remarks, Abronye questioned the legitimacy of the NIB’s actions, saying: “There was a money intended for those employees whose appointment letter have been terminated, and no government will recruit for that budgeting.

So I’ll go and face them. I haven’t seen the criminal element of that. So they said I should come and assist them in investigation. So let’s go and then take it from there.”

He further expressed confusion over the NIB’s focus on his allegations, suggesting that other high-profile figures who have made serious claims have not been similarly scrutinized.

Abronye highlighted the apparent selectivity in investigations, saying: “Then after that, we can read meaning to their invitation whether they are trying to reintroduce the culture of silence that everybody spoke against some time ago.

I don’t see the criminal element of this issue for BNI to take or invite me to assist them when the current government appointees have made wild allegations, and the director of BNI hasn’t invited any of them.”

In a sharp criticism of what he perceived as double standards, Abronye DC referenced allegations made against the former NPP government, including accusations of an “Akyem mafia hoarding gold outside” and claims of embezzlement involving the MIIF (Microfinance and Small Loans Centre).

He pointed out that despite the gravity of these accusations, the NIB had not called in any of those responsible for making them.

“Wild allegation, serious that Akyem mafia we are hoarding gold outside, the MIIF. There are monies that they have stolen.

A lot of things. So the director of, national investigation did not invite any of them. So we will go and prove to them that they are doing selectivity in their work,” Abronye added.

This controversy follows Abronye DC’s invitation by the NIB to appear on February 26, 2025, to discuss the claims surrounding the GH₵550 million, a significant amount that he asserts is being unfairly withheld from dismissed appointees.
