Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, the Member of Parliament for North Tongu, has praised Archbishop Nicholas Duncan-Williams and Reverend Eastwood Anaba for stepping down from the National Cathedral’s Board of Trustees.

Ablakwa is one of the main people fighting against the government’s plan to build a National Cathedral. He has used Facebook to continually show Ghanaians why the construction shouldn’t proceed forward.

The North Tongu lawmaker wrote on Facebook saying, “May I take a moment off my grueling VRA disaster response to offer high commendation to Archbishop Nicholas Duncan-Williams and Reverend Eastwood Anaba for resigning from the National Cathedral Board of Trustees on the basis of “conscience and faith.”

“This principled position has undoubtedly covered these revered clergymen in veritable glory.”

“Truth Stands; Deception always crumbles!” he added.

Archbishop Nicholas Duncan-Williams and Eastwood Anaba have resigned from their positions on the Board of Trustees responsible for overseeing the construction of the National Cathedral in Ghana.

Due to the government’s failure to appoint an independent accounting firm to check all public funds given to the National Cathedral project, they made their decision. After their earlier request for an independent audit of the project went unanswered, Archbishop Duncan-Williams and Rev. Anaba released a joint statement expressing their dissatisfaction.

These prominent pastors had previously demanded that work on the National Cathedral be stopped immediately so that a full audit could be conducted. In addition, they stressed that the difficult economic climate in Ghana would make it impossible to finish the project on time.

Therefore, they demanded that the project be put on hold until the country’s economic situation improved significantly.
