Kwame Asare Obeng, known to many as A Plus, made his first official submission in Ghana’s Parliament with the kind of directness and confidence that has long characterized his public persona.
Since his swearing-in on January 7, 2025, as the Independent Member of Parliament for Gomoa Central, A Plus has yet to engage in parliamentary proceedings. His debut came during a session where he sought clarification regarding his assigned task.
“Mr. Speaker, the leadership informed me that I have to comment on honourable… not yet, so I will ask Mr. Speaker.
“The information that I had was that I have to comment on a different appointment, so I will ask if that is possible to be corrected. The information I have is what I am dealing with,” he stated, signalling his intent to address a different matter.

However, his remarks set off a chain of events, with the Second Deputy Speaker attempting to clarify the situation.
“The report you are to comment on is not ready. Is that what you want to say?” to which A Plus responded, “Yes, Mr. Speaker.”
This led to a wave of heckling from his fellow MPs, but A Plus, ever the defiant figure, refused to be deterred.
His response to the hecklers was unambiguous: “Relax, relax, you are not… Mr. Speaker, I am dealing with my whip, and she gave me information, and that is what I am working on. Sit down, relax, relax, relax.”
The confrontation highlighted A Plus’s commitment to standing firm in the face of disruptions, even on his first day in Parliament.
His no-nonsense approach to the parliamentary process was a clear reflection of the persona he has built over the years—one that thrives on speaking up for what he believes in, regardless of the environment or the opposition.
This incident not only marked A Plus’s introduction to the chamber but also set the tone for his tenure in Parliament.
