Nollywood actress and filmmaker Omoni Oboli has sparked intense conversations after revealing a disturbing experience that sheds light on the darker side of the Nigerian film industry.
During an interview with comedian and filmmaker Ayo Makun, also known as AY, on his Glasshouse show, Omoni shared a deeply personal story that has resonated beyond Nollywood, touching on issues of exploitation and abuse of power.
Omoni, known for her strong moral compass and professionalism, recounted an unsettling incident that occurred when she returned to Nigeria to resume her acting career after taking time off to raise her three children.
Having built a reputation for her acting talent and directorial work, she did not expect the shocking proposition she received.

During an audition, a film director demanded a kiss from her in exchange for a role. The request was not part of the script or the performance but a blatant attempt to exploit her.
Omoni expressed her outrage and disbelief at the demand, explaining that while she is comfortable performing on-screen kissing scenes as part of her work, she would never entertain such behaviour outside of a professional context.
Her firm refusal of the inappropriate request ultimately cost her the role, leaving AY, who has long been familiar with the workings of Nollywood, visibly stunned during the interview.
Omoni’s revelation exposes a well-known but rarely discussed issue in the entertainment industry, where directors and producers often use their positions of power to make unacceptable demands.
Her experience highlights the difficult choices faced by many women in Nollywood, where refusing to comply with such propositions can lead to lost opportunities.
