Sammy Gyamfi, the National Democratic Congress’s national communications director, got in a heated arguments with Akosua Manu, the National Youth Authority’s deputy chief executive officer, over the new proposed Constitutional Instrument (C.I.) by the Electoral Commission.
During a discussion on Metro TV’s Good Morning Ghana on March 2, 2023, on the proposed Constitutional Instrument by the Electoral Commission, which is now before parliament, Sammy Gyamfi accused the latter of referencing nonexistent laws to defend her argument.
Several members of the NDC have criticised the proposed C.I., which would force the EC to use Ghana Card alone to register residents for the new voter ID cards, claiming it is part of a big conspiracy by the EC to rig the 2024 general elections.
According to Akosua Manu, the Ghana Card can be used as evidence of registration alongside passports and the guarantor system, as stated in the current voter registration law C.I. 72 of 2012. Akosua criticized the NDC’s assaults on the EC chair Jean Mensa stressing: “You called her a liar, you called her all sorts of names, I mean you can detest somebody but you can still take into context what they’re saying and applied it to whatever the discussion is.
But Sammy Gyamfi didn’t believe what she said about his fellow panellist, so he asked her where she got the information.
