Angry Osei Tutu II Destools Aduamoa Chief

An angry Otumfuo Osei Tutu II has reportedly destooled the Chief of Aduamoa in the Ashanti Region due to his involvement in unauthorized sale of lands and various acts of misconduct.

This most recent action by the Asantehene comes shortly after the recent destoolment of the Chief of Bekwai Abodom, who was charged with carrying out illicit mining operations inside his territorial control.

The Chief of Aduamoa’s deselection by the Asantehene was motivated by a history of persistently engaging in improper behavior despite repeated warnings. The Asantehene has responded firmly since the chief’s actions appear to have continued to undermine the obligations and ideals associated with his office.

To symbolize the destoolment, the Asantehene ordered the removal of the chief’s sandals.

Making the pronouncement at the Manhyia Palace on Monday, August 14, 2023, the Asantehene said, “We have been walking and serving together since childhood, so you feel pampered to act anyhow. You have not been visiting your stool in Kotei to perform the necessary rites up until now. I was waiting for you to die, so today you have been destooled”.

The Asantehene, on Monday, May 29, also destooled the chief of Antoa, Nana Kwame Owusu Agyeman.

The decision came as a consequence of multiple offences committed by the chief, including the unauthorized sale of lands, and a violation of the customs and traditions upheld by the Asante people.

According to the report first shared by Citinews, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II presided over the decision as the President of the Kumasi Traditional Council during his first meeting after his return from the coronation of King Charles III in the United Kingdom. For a continuous 23 years, Nana Kwame Owusu Agyeman served as the Antoa chief, a prestigious position.

Similarly, back in May this year, the Asantehene destooled Nana Kwame Owusu Agyeman, the chief of Antoa.

The ruling was issued by the Asantehene, who happens to be the President of the Kumasi Traditional Council, during his first meeting on May 29, 2023, after returning from a journey to the United Kingdom.

The chief reportedly appointed his nephew to succeed him while he was still alive, going against the traditionally established and approved protocols. He disparaged the King when asked by his kinsmen and elders to ask Otumfuo’s consent.

Otumfuo ordered his destoolment after hearing his case on Monday night. In the town, the destoolment rites are currently taking place.

According to Graphics Online, additional offences, such as several land sales, are the basis for the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II’s decision to destool Antoahene. Nana Kwame Owusu Agyeman had been on the stool for 23 years.

Osei Tutu II, born Nana Barima Kwaku Duah is the 16th Asantehene, enstooled on 26 April 1999. By name, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II is in direct succession to the 17th-century founder of the Ashanti Empire, Otumfuo Osei Tutu I. He is also the Chancellor of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology. Otumfuo Osei Tutu II is the Grand Patron of the Grand Lodge of Ghana and the Sword Bearer of the United Grand Lodge of England.
