President Nana Akufo-Addo delivered his address at the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York on September 20, 2023.
The UNGA’s 78th Session brought together presidents and other heads of government to discuss various local, subregional, and global issues.
Akufo-Addo became the 8th president to deliver his address, following the presidents of Seychelles, Rwanda, and Namibia, among others from Africa. The theme of the 78th session is “Rebuilding Trust and Reigniting Global Solidarity: Accelerating Action on the 2030 Agenda and its Sustainable Development Goals towards Peace, Prosperity, Progress, and Sustainability for All.”
In his speech last year, President Akufo-Addo highlighted the impact of the Russian-Ukraine war on African economies and the terrorism crisis in West Africa.
This year, the president addressed the growing trend of coups in Africa, the ongoing effects of the global economic downturn on the continent, and the government’s measures to stabilize the economy at the local level.
