A fake Ghanaian lawyer identified as Nii Bi Griffiths Dodoo met his Waterloo when he was busted at Amasaman, a suburb of Accra while representing someone in court.
On August 23, 2023, the Amasaman Circuit Court witnessed a dramatic turn of events when the presiding judge ordered the arrest of Nii Bi Griffiths Dodoo, the supposed lawyer representing the defendant in a case.
According to the report originally shared by MyNewsGh, the court registrar, assisted by warrant officers, promptly apprehended Mr. Dodoo and transferred him to the Amasaman Divisional Police Headquarters. Further investigation revealed that Mr. Dodoo was not a licensed lawyer and belonged to an unaccredited law firm. He was, therefore, an imposter who had presented himself as a legal representative in the case before the court.
Upon receiving Mr Dodoo from the court registrar, the Amasaman Divisional Police detained him on charges of impersonation and unlawful practice as a lawyer, as stipulated in the Criminal Offence Act (Act 29) of 1960. According to the police report, Mr. Dodoo had presented himself as the counsel for the defendant in Suit No. C1/33/2023 titled Rev. Dr. Samuel Adu VRS Nii Osabu Akwei 1.
He had provided a practice license number as eGAR/02121/23 from DUAME, GEORGE AND ASSOCIATES with chamber No. ePP00217/23. The presiding judge ordered Mr. Dodoo’s arrest after perusing a document from the General Legal Council (GLC) dated July 23, 2023, and signed by the Secretary of the GLC, Justice Cynthia Pamela Addo.
The document stated that Mr. Dodoo was not on the roll of lawyers and did not belong to a licensed law firm. The Amasaman Divisional Police Command is currently investigating the matter, and Mr. Dodoo is being prepared to face prosecution.
