A 60-year-old Argentinian woman, Alejandra Rodríguez has made history by winning the Miss Universe Buenos Aires pageant.
Rodríguez, a lawyer and journalist from La Plata, has thus become the first contestant at the age of 60 to be crowned with this prestigious title.
Outshining 34 other participants, ranging from 18 to 73 years old, Alejandra’s victory is truly remarkable.
Her next challenge will be competing for the country’s Miss Universe title on May 25, with the potential to advance to the global stage in September. This incredible achievement has been reported by Hola! and the Buenos Aires Times.
“I am thrilled to be representing this new paradigm in beauty pageants because we are inaugurating a new stage in which women are not only physical beauty but another set of values,” Rodríguez told members of the media after her win, per the outlets. “I am the first of this generation to start with this.”
In September 2023, the Miss Universe Organization made a significant announcement stating that they would eliminate age restrictions for participants in the pageant.
As of this year, any woman who is 18 years or older can now take part in the competition. Before this change, only women between the ages of 18 and 28 were eligible to enter the pageant.
Meanwhile, Rodríguez shared that she remains focused on her next goal at hand — winning the next pageant.
“I think the judges saw my confidence and my passion to represent the women of my generation,” she said, according to The Independent. “I am determined to fight for the crown of Miss Universe Argentina 2024.”
