5 Things Men Should NEVER Wear On A Date

, Ghana Street Journal

When it comes to starting a new relationship or establishing a deeper connection with someone you admire, dating holds significant importance.

In addition to considering factors like your personality and choosing the perfect location, deciding what to wear (and what not to wear) is equally crucial. It can be quite a challenge to get it right.

If you find yourself in this situation, GhanaStreetJournal has put together some helpful lists to guide you through this dilemma.

1. Damaged, Dirty, or Smelly Clothes

It is important to ensure that your clothes are clean before wearing them. If you find yourself having to check for odours before getting dressed, it is a good idea to place the item in the laundry instead.

It is advisable to change out of your work attire if possible. Wearing a fresh set of clothes can put you in a fresh frame of mind for your date.

Not only should your clothes smell good, but they should also look good. If your favourite shirt is worn out, it may not bring you good luck.

Knowing what level of wear and tear is acceptable will give you a better idea of what is suitable and what is not appropriate to wear on a date in this region. Be mindful of details you may overlook, such as a frayed belt, stained sneakers, or scuffed dress shoes.

2. Clothes That Are Too Casual or Too Formal

In today’s increasingly casual world, it’s important to remember that dressing appropriately for a date is crucial.

Opting for overly casual attire may give off the impression that you’re not taking the date seriously or valuing your date’s time. Moreover, dressing too casually could potentially make your date feel uncomfortable or out of place.

The definition of “too casual” varies based on personal style, your date’s preferences, and the planned activities.

However, certain items like flip-flops, cargo shorts, undershirts worn as regular shirts, and T-shirts with ironic phrases are generally not ideal for most dates, especially if you prefer a more classic style. Remember, your date is unlikely to appreciate a T-shirt with a sarcastic slogan like “I’m with Stupid.”

3. Athletic Wear or Athleisure

Expanding on our earlier discussion about overly casual clothing, athletic wear and athleisure are typically too informal for a date. Unless you have plans to attend a sports event, it’s advisable to avoid wearing your team’s jerseys.

4. Excessive Jewelry

Jewellery is a wonderful way to enhance any outfit with subtle details, but it’s important to remember that moderation is key. Just like excessive branding, wearing too much jewelry can come across as trying too hard to impress.

It’s best to avoid giving off an air of arrogance by overdoing it with accessories. While it’s perfectly acceptable to wear a lot of jewellery if that’s your style, it’s essential not to depend on it to boost your self-esteem. Overloading on jewelry just to appear flashy can often send the wrong message to others, especially on a date.

5. Fussy Clothing

After dedicating so much time to selecting the perfect attire for your date, it is crucial to remember that you are going out with your date, not your suit. Therefore, regardless of what you decide to wear, ensure that it is not overly complicated or demanding of excessive attention.
