For these Ghanaian artists contained in our compilation, patriotism holds significant importance as they transcend the cultural elements reflected in their lyrics to create visually stunning music videos that promote Ghana on a global scale.

The artists GhanaStreetJournal will discuss are deeply committed to portraying the rich essence of Ghana through their songs, effectively capturing the narrative of the nation in their music videos and, at times, in their live performances.

1. Fuse ODG

You have likely seen several music videos by Fuse ODG. He takes immense pride in his Ghanaian heritage, which he openly showcases.

His track, New Africa Girl featuring KiDi and Kuame Eugene, exemplifies this pride. For those unfamiliar with him, Fuse ODG is notable for being the first Ghanaian to receive a Grammy award.

He is dedicated to elevating Ghanaian artists within the UK music scene and aims to reshape perceptions of Africa through his artistry.

Residing in the UK, he has collaborated with prominent figures such as Wyclef Jean, Sean Paul, Shatta Wale, Major Lazer, and Ed Sheeran.

Fuse ODG has established himself as a significant name in the Afrobeats genre, ensuring that his music videos highlight the beauty of Ghana’s landscapes.

2. Okyeame Kwame

Okyeame Kwame’s dedication to patriotism is truly admirable. He consistently highlights Ghana’s cultural richness in nearly all of his music videos.

The stunning landscapes and scenery are captured in a manner that evokes a strong sense of pride among Ghanaians.

His collaborations, such as “Bra,” “Mere Twen Wo,” and “Ino Be My Matter” featuring Kuame Eugene, exemplify his efforts to showcase Ghanaian culture to a global audience.

M.anifest’s style showcases his Ghanaian heritage, and he ensures that his music videos convey his perspective on his African roots, even after spending an extended period in America.

As a rapper, he has notably moved away from the typical themes of flashy jewellery, women, alcohol, and drugs that are often found in hip-hop music videos.

He is committed to translating the ‘Ghanaian’ elements of his lyrics with corresponding visuals, a distinctive feature that he has woven into his artistic identity.

4. Wiyalaa

Ghanaian Afropop singer and songwriter, Noella Wiyaala, known professionally as Wiyaala has made a name for herself on the international stage.

Her music and fashion style are influenced by her Ghanaian background and this is something she interprets in her music videos. It’s for this reason that she has wholly been accepted by the international community whereas Ghanaians are yet to appreciate her craft.

5. King Ayisoba

The artist behind the popular track ‘I Want To See You My Father’ is celebrated for his unique indigenous music style, which is also reflected in his music videos. King Ayisoba has risen to international fame, performing extensively across various European nations and promoting Ghanaian culture globally.

His distinctive instrument, the Kologo, produces the vibrant rhythms characteristic of his heritage.

Born in June 1975 in Bongo SOE, located near Bolgatanga in Ghana’s Upper East Region, he later relocated to Techiman Nyampenase in the Brong Ahafo Region to pursue farming.

However, he moved to Accra a year later, where he collaborated with the late Terry Bonchaka to further develop his musical career.
