On Wednesday, a clash between military personnel and officers of the Ghana Prisons Service in Bawku resulted in injuries to three prison officers, according to a report by Graphic Online.

The dispute arose when military personnel demanded the release of two individuals who had sought refuge in the prison yard to avoid arrest.

These individuals had caused a disturbance during the official launch of the 40th-anniversary celebration of Bawku Naba, Naba Asigri Abugrago Azoka, at his palace on April 24, 2024.

After their unruly behaviour, the two individuals attempted to escape when the military intervened, leading them to seek shelter within the prison service yard along the Bawku main road.

When questioned by prison officers on duty, a confrontation erupted between the two security agencies.

According to an anonymous resident who spoke to Graphic Online, this confrontation escalated to the point where gunshots were fired.

As a result, three prison officers sustained gunshot wounds and were immediately transported to the hospital for treatment.

Since the incident, peace has been restored in the area, and residents are returning to their normal routines.
