According to reports, a young woman in Buffalo City, New York, aged 22, and had been stuck in her car for 18 hours during a dangerous snowstorm, has died.

According to Anndel Taylor’s family, who spoke to the Charlotte, North Carolina-based ABC affiliate WSOC- a local news station, Anndel was on her way home from work on Friday but was unable to proceed due to the severe snowfall.

Mark Poloncarz, the executive of Erie County, stated that as of Monday afternoon, at least 27 people had lost their lives in the city of Buffalo as a result of the storm, which New York Governor Kathy Hochul referred to as the “blizzard of the century.”

WSOC reported that Taylor’s family members said she texted their group chat that snow was piling up and uploaded a video of what seemed to be snow-covered car windows.

They stated that she dialled 911, but emergency personnel did not arrive in time. Taylor’s mother stated that her daughter intended to sleep in her car and walk home after waiting out the storm.

“I feel like everybody that tried to get to her got stuck,” Tomeshia Brown, Taylor’s sister, told the outlet. “Fire department, police, everybody got stuck. Why didn’t they have chains on their tires? This is a state that is known for snow.”

Taylor was discovered dead in her vehicle the next day, and her family estimated that she had been imprisoned for 18 hours.

The official cause of death has not been determined, but her mother believes she died from carbon monoxide poisoning rather than hypothermia.

Hurricane-force winds, blizzards, and a bomb cyclone have all hit parts of the nation, causing power disruptions in roughly 1.5 million homes, cancellation of thousands of flights, and death this December.
