Ghana is ranked 72nd in the Corruption Perceptions Index, on January 31st, the study marks the third year in a row that Ghana has maintained its position as the 179th best place to live in the world.

According to Transparency International’s (TI) recently released statistics, Ghana only managed a 43/100. For the previous three years, Ghana has seen little improvement in its CPI score of 43.

This index ranks countries based on their perceived levels of public sector corruption, with scores ranging from 0 (extremely corrupt) to 100 (not at all corrupt), as described on the index’s organising website, transparency.org (very clean).

The report, which surveyed residents in 180 nations, found that “most countries are failing to fight corruption.

According to the press release, “corruption is a key contributor to the country’s current economic troubles as evinced by numerous studies, including that of the Auditor General’s report on Government of Ghana’s COVID-19 spending.”

They contribute to the recent uptick in violence and war – and put people worldwide in peril since governments have failed to make headway against them. He further explained, “The only way out is for nations to perform the hard job of weeding out corruption at all levels to guarantee governments operate for all people, not just an elite few.”

In general, Denmark (90) is at the top of the ranking this year, followed by Finland (87) and New Zealand (87). Among African countries, Botswana has the lowest corruption index score (60), followed by Cabo Verde (also 60) and Rwanda (51). South Sudan (ranked 13), Syria (12), and Somalia (12) have the worst records (13).
