Renowned Ghanaian sound engineer, Zapp Mallet has expressed his dissatisfaction with the exclusion of his contribution to the musical career of the evergreen gospel artiste, Tagoe Sisters, from their 40th anniversary celebrations.

The Tagoe Sisters @40 celebrations comprise a series of live music concerts scheduled between September and October 2023 to commemorate the iconic Ghanaian gospel duo’s four decades in the music industry.

The highlight of the activities was a mega concert held at the Accra International Conference Centre [AICC] on Sunday, October 15, 2023, which was graced by several dignitaries and celebrities, including President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, Gifty Osei, Hopeson Adorye, Bishop Elisha Salifu Amoako, Nacee, and Perez Musik.

In a post on X, Zapp Mallet expressed his disappointment at being excluded from the celebrations, particularly considering that he produced the Tagoe Sisters’ first album in 1989.

“Even though I produced their album in 1989 unless they didn’t consider that a release, I was never invited to their 40th anniversary. Ingratitude or forgetfulness? Smh. Human nature,” he said.

The musical duo known as the Tagoe Sisters consists of Lydia Dedei Yawson Nee Tagoe and Elizabeth Korkoi Tagoe, who are identical twins. They have been active in the gospel music industry since 1983, showcasing their exceptional talent and passion for music.

In March 2021, the organizers of the 3Music Awards recognized their outstanding contribution to the industry by honouring them at the 3Music Women’s Brunch event.

Lydia Dedei Yawson and Elizabeth Korkoi Tagoe were born on July 27, 1965, to the late Hammond Ayikwei Tagoe and Madam Theresa Aidoo.

Their father hailed from Korle-Wokon, a suburb of Accra, while their mother was from Dunkwa-on-Offin in the Central Region.

They received their primary and middle school education at Alogboshie, located near Achimota in Accra. Subsequently, they enrolled at the YMCA to learn dressmaking, but their love for music led them to pursue a career in singing.
