After a protracted legal battle, rapper Young Thug, born Jeffery Lamar Williams, has been released from prison following a plea deal in his long-standing RICO case.
Today, he entered a no-contest plea on racketeering and gang-related charges and pled guilty to additional charges, including gun and drug offences.
The judge granted him time served on several counts and imposed 15 years of probation, with the possibility of further sentence reduction if he meets probation requirements.
In his first courtroom statement, Young Thug reflected on his experiences, saying, “I am a smart guy, I am a good guy, and I really got a good heart.” He explained that being “nice and cool” led him into complex situations, especially as he gained fame.
The decision came after a non-negotiated plea, where the judge alone determined his sentencing. Previously, prosecutors had offered a plea deal for probation, which Thug initially declined, risking a potential 23-year sentence for violations.
Young Thug’s case, part of a large-scale 2022 street gang bust, involved multiple co-defendants associated with the alleged “Young Slime Life” gang in Atlanta.
While three co-defendants accepted plea deals earlier this week, Thug remains one of the high-profile figures in the RICO investigation, which charged him with conspiracy and gang activity, claiming he was a founder of YSL.
As the case continues, two remaining co-defendants, Deamonte Kendrick (Yak Gotti) and Shannon Stillwell, face serious charges, including murder and additional RICO violations, with one recently opting for a jury trial rather than a plea.
