Actor and politician Dumelo has vocally criticized government authorities following the recent arrest of 30 protesters advocating against illegal mining, known as galamsey.
In a passionate statement, Dumelo expressed his discontent with what he perceives as a troubling double standard in the government’s response to illegal mining activities.
“You proudly arrest those protesting against galamsey and quietly protest the arrest of those doing galamsey and set them free,” Dumelo asserted, condemning the authorities for their apparent inaction against those perpetuating the harmful practice while targeting citizens who are merely exercising their right to protest.

The protests against galamsey have gained momentum in Ghana as environmental concerns escalate, particularly regarding the devastating effects of illegal mining on the country’s natural resources.
The recent arrests have sparked widespread outrage among civil society and activists who argue that the government should prioritize environmental protection and public health over the interests of illegal miners.
Meanwhile, thirty-nine individuals involved in the weekend street protest have been detained by the Accra Circuit Court following their arrest by police for unlawful activities.
These individuals participated in a three-day demonstration organized by the pressure group, Democracy Hub.
