Ahead of the 24th edition of the annual Vodafone Ghana Music Awards scheduled for May 13, 2023, Black Sherif has rallied for support from his fans and music lovers.

Having captivated Ghanaians with his craftmanship and aggressive musical persona, the youngster who dropped multiple hit songs during the year under review was nominated in a whopping 11 categories, thus putting him in pole position to grab a lot of awards on D-Day.

The rapper and songwriter, amongst the numerous categories he was nominated in, emerged in the Artiste of the Year, Vodafone Most Popular Song, Reggae/Dancehall Song and Collaboration of the Year categories.

Probably against the backdrop that the VGMAs over the years have been full of surprises fraught with contentious decisions, Black Sherif stormed Twitter to register himself in the subconscious mind of the fans as he appeals to them to consider voting for him to crown his hard work.

He posted;

You’ve seen m blood, sweat & tears. You’ve seen the ups & downs of my journey. I’ve had my lips shut and my eyes opened ever since I stepped in the game. I don’t plan on changing that, not today, not tomorrow. Let’s go VGMA.

Relatedly, Black Sherif recently won the Best Hip Hop act at the Soundcity MVP Awards 2023.

The Soundcity MVP Awards Festival is an event presented by Soundcity TV that awards plaques to musicians and performers across Africa. This year’s nominees included Black Sherif, Kidi, Gyakie, and Camidoh.

The award honours excellence in music production and performance by African musicians in 15 categories, including the Best Male MVP, Best Female MVP, Song of the Year, Music Video of the Year, African Artist of the Year, African DJ of the Year, and Best Hip Hop, among others.

Pearl Thusi, a South African actress, hosted the event, which featured performances by African musicians such as Gyakie, Arya Starr, Bad Boy Timz, Seyi Vibez, Ruger, and Black Sherif.

Sound Sultan, Ifeanyi Adeleke (Davido’s Son), Rico Swavey, Obama DMW, and others were among those remembered on the show’s highlights

Ghanaian rapper Black Sherif won the award for Best Hip-Hop, while Ruger won the award for Best New Artiste, and Oxlade took home the trophy for the favourite song by a listener with “Ku Lo Sa.”

Black Sherif & Popcaan

Jamaican star Popcaan has featured Black Sherif on a new joint dubbed ‘Celebrate’ off his latest studio album named ‘Great Is He.’

Jae5, a Ghanaian-British producer, produced the aforementioned song, having previously worked on Sherif’s critically acclaimed album “Villian I Never Was.”

The 867 GUD boss’ fifth album, “Great is He,” includes notable cameos from Drake, Burna Boy, and many other artists.

Black Sherif joined in on the song’s second stanza, praising God for protecting his musical endeavours while proclaiming his victory over numerous trials and stumbling blocks.

Popcaan’s real name is Andrae Hugh Sutherland. Popcaan joined the Gaza Music Empire of Vybz Kartel in 2008. In 2010, he and Kartel released “Clarks,” an ode to the well-known shoe company, which became an instant success around the world.
