For Ghanaian highlife and afrobeat sensation Kuami Eugene, the conversation about accolades reflects a nuanced perspective. Speaking to Property FM, the Lynx Entertainment star shared his thoughts on winning awards and maintaining his focus in the music industry.
“I mean, it’s a prestigious thing to win awards, and it adds up to your brand image, so it’s an accolade that is important to win some,” Kuami Eugene remarked.
For the talented singer-songwriter, awards are a significant milestone, but they are not the sole focus of his journey.
Growing up in Fadama, a suburb of Accra, Kuami Eugene’s journey to stardom was anything but ordinary. From singing in church to participating in MTN Hitmaker, where he emerged as a breakout star, his rise has been fueled by resilience, talent, and an unshakable passion for music.

Reflecting on the role of awards in his career, he admitted, “I’m still working on winning more awards, especially the Artiste of the Year, but I don’t really focus too much on that.” This balanced approach highlights a maturity that keeps him grounded in an industry where awards can sometimes overshadow artistic growth.
For many artists, the pressure to win can be overwhelming, leading to feelings of disappointment and even depression when expectations aren’t met. Kuami Eugene, however, has found a way to maintain a healthy perspective.
“To the extent that if I don’t win an award, I become so broken, and I end up becoming so depressed, as for that one, no way at all for me,” he stated emphatically. His words reveal a self-assuredness that prioritizes mental health and creative fulfillment over external validation.
