May Edochie, now stepping into the Nollywood spotlight on her own terms, recently shared her reasons for turning down well-paying movie roles, opting instead to chart her own path.
Her recent debut in Uprising, directed by Omoni Oboli, has set the stage for her cautious and selective approach, and she opened up in an interview about the intentional choices guiding her career.
Reflecting on the offers she’s received, May revealed that over the past two years, she has turned down scripts and substantial financial incentives from major Nollywood producers. While the roles were tempting, she felt they didn’t align with her personal vision.

She initially hesitated to accept her role in Uprising, weighing the project carefully before ultimately joining.
Her decision to debut in this film was not about just any opportunity, but the right opportunity. “I’m a master of all trades,” May shared, emphasizing her confidence in her ability to succeed in a range of ventures beyond acting.
“There’s so much I can do if I set my mind to it,” she added, describing a versatility that has become a defining part of her journey.
May’s discerning approach has earned admiration, setting her apart in an industry often defined by rapid-fire projects and the pressure to stay in the public eye.
