Why Mahama And Bawumia Won’t Get My Vote—Akwaboah

Singer Akwaboa Jr. has expressed his decision not to vote in this year’s presidential elections, citing the empty promises and prevailing hardships under the current government as the main reasons.

He specifically mentioned the leadership of Nana AkufoAddo and his deputy, Bawumia, as contributing factors to his decision.

Akwaboah’s statement was also in response to a speech delivered by Bawumia, who is the flagbearer of the ruling NPP for the 2024 elections.

It is worth noting that Akwaboah did not vote in the 2020 general election and does not anticipate voting in this year’s election either. He made these remarks during an interview on Accra 100.5 FM’s midmorning show, Ayekoo Ayekoo, on Thursday, February 8, 2024.

“We’ve heard these promises endlessly. It’s not just him. Anybody that desires political power says same or similar, believing that is what would get them needed attention from the creative arts sector,” he said.

Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, on Wednesday, February 7, 2024, addressed Ghanaians in a highly publicized event titled “Bawumia Speaks: Ghana’s Next Chapter: Selfless Leadership and Bold Solutions for the Future.”

The event, held at the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA), provided an opportunity for the vice president to share his vision for the future of Ghana, particularly in light of the country’s ongoing International Monetary Fund (IMF) bailout.

The majority of Ghanaians, particularly the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) and a few neutrals, have not received most of the topics discussed in his speech favourably.

The Highlife singer recently said in an interview that he is the torchbearer for Highlife songs in Ghana’s music industry. He believes that all Ghanaian songs are rooted in the highlife sound and considers himself a guiding light to attract others to highlife music.

During an interview on the Showbiz 360 show on TV3, Akwaboah discussed the inspiration behind his album “Lighthouse.” As a reminder, Akwaoah is a great force to reckon with when it comes to entertainment in Ghana.

He expressed his desire to showcase the beauty and challenges of highlife music, which involves live instrumentation and demands precision and skill. Additionally, he aimed to steer people towards the highlife genre that Ghana excels in and to motivate other artists to draw inspiration from their musical heritage.
