Sister Derby, the outspoken Ghanaian musician and TV personality, is once again challenging societal perceptions with her unwavering support for the LGBTQ+ community.
In a candid interview with MX24 TV, she raised a critical question that cuts through the noise surrounding the heated debate over LGBTQ+ rights in Ghana.
“With all this push and everything, I always ask: nobody has ever come to report that someone made them gay or someone made them lesbian. No child.
“This hasn’t been in any news in Ghana that the parents of a child have come to report to the news or to the police station. There’s no such report,” Sister Derby stated, her tone brimming with frustration and clarity.

Her words highlight a recurring theme in LGBTQ+ discourse in Ghana: the fear and misinformation surrounding queer identities. Sister Derby pointed out the lack of tangible evidence to justify the widespread uproar over LGBTQ+ issues.
“The other day, Charlie Dior said on radio he’s never ever seen two men kissing in Ghana. So what is this whole uproar about?” she asked, further questioning the basis of the backlash.
Sister Derby’s advocacy comes at a pivotal time. The proposed anti-LGBTQ+ bill in Ghana has dominated public conversations, with many calling for stricter laws against the community.
For Sister Derby, this frenzy over morality and tradition often lacks nuance and factual grounding.
