Why I Don’t Date Nigerian Women – David Hundeyin

, Ghana Street Journal

David Hundeyin has mentioned that the woman in his life is from East Africa and that he purposefully avoided dating women from that country.

He claimed that, unlike Nigerian women, he views his partner as an equal and not as something that must be domesticated.

The investigative journalist claimed that a woman who wants to be with a man would make things simple for him rather than performing and having fun.

Hundeyin’s remark comes days after he flaunted his girlfriend on the microblogging site Twitter, though he withheld her identity. He added that the idea of love in Nigerian culture entails traumatic bonding and required financial transactions.

He wrote; “I see my partner as an equal whom I can talk to and reason with, not as a wild animal whom I need to dominate and domesticate. That’s precisely why I’m with an East African partner. She makes me feel safe to be my real self with her, not our “Ija wa, ija o si, always guiding.”

I believe if someone wants to be with you, they will make it easy for you instead of acting as if you need to club them over the head and drag them home like a caveman.

The Nigerian perception of “love” is BDSM + financial transactions with a sprinkle of emotional trauma bonding.”

Hundeyin is an investigative journalist. His reporting style, at times open-sourced, has won him multiple awards but also earned him criticism. After participating in the #EndSARS protest, he left Nigeria when multiple threats were made against him. He sought asylum in Ghana.
