Up-and-coming Ghanaian artist Beeztrap KOTM has disclosed the reasons behind his transition from rapping to singing during an interview with Delay.
He mentioned that he faced challenges with his diction when trying to perform tongue twisters, which highlighted his limitations and prompted him to pursue a more suitable musical style.
When asked about his identity as a musician, whether he considers himself a rapper or a singer, he elaborated that his slower speech pattern hinders his ability to rap quickly or articulate lyrics in sync with fast-paced beats, unlike many of his peers.
“I don’t want to box myself in a genre of music because I can do all, but I don’t consider myself a rapper. I had to quit rapping because of my tongue.
“Those days I used to rap, anytime I tried tongue-twisting, I realized I was making errors and it was very difficult for me. So, I stopped. I can’t talk fast so I used to miss words. So, I am sticking to just singing.
Additionally, the young man expressed that Mugeez from R2Bees is his favourite singer and mentor.
He said, “Growing up, my mentor in music has always been a Ghanaian. I admire and use to listen to Mugeez a lot. I used to listen to him and learn from him a lot. In fact, I still listen to his music to date. ”
