Edward Nana Poku, also known as Da Hammer (Hammer) of the Last 2 fame, recently appeared on Bola Ray’s Personality Profile on Starr FM.
During the interview, he discussed his approach to working with the artists he managed in the past.
The legendary music producer and talent scout revealed that he never imposed any charges on the artists he produced.
He said the decision was a deliberate strategy to establish his authority and guide them when they made mistakes during the recording process.
Hammer emphasized that this approach proved to be highly effective. By not charging the artists, he held that this ensured they didn’t have the freedom to do whatever they pleased with their final products.
He said this allowed him to maintain control and ensure the best possible outcome for their music.
“The reason why I don’t take money is because if the music is not good I cannot correct you if you’ve paid. You’ve paid me and so if you’ve paid me I have to shut up and play,” he told Starr FM in an interview.
However, “I want to tell you that you’re not good if you’re not good so you go home and work on your craft and come back so I did not take money.
“I accept that you’re good so you’ll come to the studio and somebody is sweeping Okrah and Motia the beast master. Bad boys and you’ll never see them coming but if you come and park your car they will burn you in the studio.
I have soldiers that I believe in. So what I do is I finish the work and look for Executive producers. So when I finished Pae Mu Ka I sent it to Abraham and told him this is the future, he didn’t believe it but I told him this is the future trust me,” he said.
Hammer played a key role in introducing popular artists like Sarkodie, Obrafuor, Tinny, Edem, Dogo, Kwaw Kese and other Last 2 soldiers to the mainstream music scene.
His music not only shaped the foundation of hiplife but also paved the way for other artists to experiment with the genre and push its boundaries.
