The former head of the now-defunct 4×4 music trio, Captain Planet, has urged the youth of Ghana to eradicate any patriotism they may feel, as he believes that the country’s leaders are indifferent to their welfare.
He advised them to seize every opportunity to leave the country and pursue better prospects abroad, never to return to a country that has been abandoned by selfish politicians who only seek to enrich themselves and their families.
The rapper and songwriter alleges that Ghanaian leaders are amassing wealth globally at the expense of the populace. He shared his profound, albeit controversial, post on X (formerly Twitter), saying:
If you’re fortunate enough to leave this country please don’t come back. These leaders are only acquiring properties for their families & they don’t give a shit about you. Don’t die for this country in the name of being patriotic. Your future is not secured here . BE WISE
His remarks were made shortly after the 67th Independence Day celebrations in Ghana. The patriotic spirit was evident nationwide on March 6, as citizens engaged in a range of activities during the anniversary parade, reflecting on the country’s progress through different economic, social, and political eras.
Nevertheless, Ghana’s economy is currently facing challenges, with skyrocketing prices of commodities causing widespread dissatisfaction towards the government in power.
There are concerns among many Ghanaians that this situation may impact the NPP’s prospects of staying in office after the 2024 elections.
