Nigerian music superstar Davido has shared an emotional and heartfelt account of how his faith, instilled by his father’s teachings, has been a guiding force through life’s most profound challenges.

Speaking during a podcast interview with RollingOut, the award-winning artist opened up about his upbringing in a devout Christian household, the loss of his son Ifeanyi, and the triumphant milestones that followed.

“My dad is very successful, but he’s an elder in the church,” Davido began, painting a vivid picture of his upbringing. “I grew up as a member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church. I attended a Christian college. Faith has always been part of my life.”

The bond between Davido and his father extends beyond the typical parent-child relationship. It is one deeply rooted in spiritual guidance, something Davido admits he initially struggled to grasp.

“I overcame a lot of challenges because of my dad,” he said, his voice tinged with nostalgia. “Initially, I didn’t understand. I was angry. Sometimes, I was like, ‘Why do bad things happen to good people?’”

The pivotal moment came when tragedy struck—the untimely death of his son, Ifeanyi, in 2022. The heartbreak was unbearable, and it tested every ounce of Davido’s faith.

“My dad told me, ‘You can’t question God,’” he recalled. At the time, those words were hard to accept. “I was like, ‘What do you mean you can’t question God?’”

But life, as it often does, unfolded in unexpected ways. Davido soon found solace in his father’s wisdom. “A year later, we had twins.

The biggest album of my career came, and my first Grammy nominations came,” he revealed, his voice filled with a mix of awe and gratitude. “Then it started to make sense. People go through different challenges, but just know that God has your back.”

The loss of Ifeanyi and the subsequent blessings have profoundly shaped Davido’s perspective.
