The appointment of Dr. Randy Abbey as the Chief Executive Officer of COCOBOD has sparked controversy within the National Democratic Congress (NDC), with party communicator Kojo Yeboah openly questioning the decision.
In an interview with TV XYZ, Yeboah expressed his dissatisfaction, arguing that the appointment disregarded loyal party members who fought for Mahama’s victory.
“People applauded the president when he started appointing his ministers because they were very competent, but the appointment of CEOs didn’t sit well with many,” he stated.

Drawing comparisons, he pointed out the absence of political bias in other appointments.
“Did you see any NDC member as part of Randy Abbey’s entourage when he went to COCOBOD?
“Someone who can’t distinguish between a cassava stick and a cocoa tree has been put in charge of COCOBOD,” he added, casting doubt on Abbey’s expertise in the cocoa sector.
His concerns reflect broader frustrations within the party, as some members believe Mahama’s government is sidelining NDC loyalists in favour of technocrats or external figures.
“Why is he appointing outsiders over the NDC members who fought for him?” he questioned, emphasizing the need to reward party members with key government positions.
