Popular actor and parliamentary candidate for Ayawaso West Wuogon, John Dumelo, has delivered a strong message to his opponents ahead of the December 7 elections.
Representing the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Dumelo stated that any attempt by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to incite violence would be met with equal or greater force, signalling his commitment to ensuring a level playing field in the constituency.
Speaking passionately during a campaign rally, Dumelo emphasized the need for mutual respect but did not shy away from addressing the potential for conflict.
“If they smile at us, we will smile back. If they frown at us, we will frown back,” Dumelo declared to a cheering crowd. “But if they think they can be violent, we will strike first and leave them shocked.”
This defiant stance comes against the backdrop of the constituency’s politically charged history. Ayawaso West Wuogon gained notoriety during a 2019 by-election marred by allegations of voter intimidation and violence.
For many residents, those events remain a painful reminder of how easily political tension can escalate, making Dumelo’s bold remarks resonate deeply with his supporters.
Addressing concerns over the potential escalation of hostilities, Dumelo maintained that his priority was peace and fairness in the election process.
However, he stressed that his campaign team would not tolerate any form of aggression. “We are here to win through legitimate means.
“But let me be clear: if they bring violence, we will not sit back and watch. We will match them action for action,” he said, drawing loud applause.
