For decades, Ghana’s film industry has navigated a rollercoaster of highs and lows, struggling with issues like inadequate funding, distribution challenges, and limited global visibility.
Yet, amidst these challenges, there have always been passionate individuals determined to push the industry forward.
Now, with the appointment of actress and filmmaker Kafui Danku as the new Executive Secretary of the National Film Authority (NFA), many believe a fresh and transformative chapter is about to unfold.
In her first statement after assuming office, Danku emphasized her commitment to uplifting the industry, stating, “This new chapter is an opportunity to uplift, empower, and create a lasting impact in Ghana’s film and media industry.
“I look forward to collaborating with all stakeholders to drive growth, innovation, and global recognition for our industry.”
Her words reflect a deep understanding of the industry’s potential and the urgent need for strategic collaboration to reposition Ghanaian cinema on the global stage.
The country has long produced remarkable talent, from classic films like Love Brewed in the African Pot to modern productions such as The Burial of Kojo.
However, many Ghanaian filmmakers still struggle with financial constraints, limited marketing avenues, and competition from larger industries like Nollywood.
Expressing her gratitude, she acknowledged the trust placed in her by the country’s leadership.
“To Mr. President, I’m immensely thankful and committed to seeing the organization rise to the vision you hope for.
“To the Honorable Minister and entire team at the Ministry of Tourism, Culture & Creative Arts, your leadership and vision for the sector so far have been truly inspiring, and I am committed to working with you to support your efforts,” she affirmed.
