We should have deployed soldiers- Obiri Boahen on NPP’s massive lost

In an interview on Okay FM, former General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Obiri Boahen, shared his thoughts on the party’s unexpected defeat in the 2024 general elections.

His comments have sparked significant discussion and debate among political analysts and the general public.

“It’s no small issue because it is not something normal nor ordinary,” Boahen remarked, emphasizing the unusual nature of the election results.

“First, consider the number of seats obtained by the NPP; it’s something around the eighties. Secondly, check the collation centers or electoral areas; it is just not normal.”

Boahen’s observations highlight the stark contrast between the NPP’s performance in previous elections and the 2024 results.

The party, which had been a dominant force in Ghanaian politics, securing a significant number of parliamentary seats in past elections, found itself with a drastically reduced presence in the legislature.

Reflecting on the factors that might have contributed to this outcome, Boahen suggested that the lack of military presence during the elections played a crucial role.

“I believe that if soldiers were deployed, the story would have been different in about fifty to sixty constituencies,” he stated.

This assertion points to concerns about the security and integrity of the electoral process, raising questions about the measures in place to ensure free and fair elections.
