The 2025 edition of the Ghana Movie Awards (GMA) saw a departure from the usual grand scale of promotions and publicity.
Fred Nuamah, the founder of the prestigious awards, recently shared that the limited marketing for the event was due to unforeseen political circumstances surrounding the venue.
In an interview with Joy News, Nuamah revealed that the government’s use of the Accra International Conference Centre (AICC) for other purposes created unforeseen limitations on the event’s ability to attract a large crowd.

“When we started planning, we didn’t know the government would be using the AICC for these purposes. This caused some restrictions on our ability to attract large crowds, so we decided to keep the event low-key and focus primarily on industry stakeholders,” he explained.
According to Nuamah, the decision to scale down the event’s publicity was made to accommodate these unexpected challenges.
“Because we couldn’t bring many people to the venue, we decided to keep things quiet and concentrate only on the industry.
Normally, we do billboards, TV ads, and other promotions, but this time we wanted to limit it to a smaller crowd, so we kept it low-key,” he added.
The Ghana Movie Awards, often celebrated as one of the most significant events in the country’s film industry, typically draws considerable attention with large-scale advertisements and fanfare.
However, this year’s edition saw a shift in focus, opting for a more intimate approach centered around industry professionals rather than the general public.
