The fallout from Ghana’s contested parliamentary seats has sparked a heated clash between South Dayi MP, Rockson-Nelson Etse Kwami Dafeamekpor, and Majority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin.
The tension reached a boiling point after the Electoral Commission declared seven out of nine disputed seats in favour of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), despite the matter still being before the Supreme Court.
In an emotional response, Dafeamekpor accused Afenyo-Markin of undermining the judicial process by prematurely celebrating the outcome.
“When a matter is in court, don’t you respect the court process? Today, Afenyo is granting a press conference, giving praises to an outcome of exercises that are still before the Supreme Court. And he is telling me to take it in good faith and that we are brothers. We are not brothers, Afenyo, we are not!”

The South Dayi MP’s frustration didn’t end there. He accused the Majority Leader of dishonest tactics, alleging that his press conferences were rife with fabrications.
“Some of these lies, Afenyo should stop this conduct. He should stop fabricating stories to spice up his press conferences,” he charged, visibly upset at what he described as deliberate misinformation.
For Dafeamekpor, this is not just a battle over parliamentary seats but a fight for fairness and respect for due process. His stern warning to the NPP hinted at political payback if the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) assumes power.
“They may be in government, but they are no longer in power. The power has left them and is now transitioning to us. When we get the power, we will show them where power lies,” he declared, his words heavy with intent.
