Peace FM’s Kwasi Aboagye did not hold back when addressing veteran gospel singer Nicholas Omane Acheampong’s claim that John Dramani Mahama planned to cancel the free SHS policy of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP).
During his appearance on Kwasi Aboagye’s Entertainment Review show monitored by GhanaStreetJournal, Omane Acheampong confidently asserted that the NDC flagbearer intended to scrap the NPP’s flagship project, the free SHS policy.
Aboagye promptly challenged him, stating that Mahama never made such a statement and urged him to provide evidence to support his claim.
The ace broadcaster criticized Omane Acheampong for spreading misinformation and involving himself in politics without proper knowledge due to his allegiance to the NPP.
He demanded that Omane Acheampong retract his statement, emphasizing that it was based on falsehoods and propaganda.
Despite the pushback, Omane Acheampong stood by his claim, further arguing that Mahama’s alleged stance was a reason why he should not be elected as president in the upcoming 2024 elections.
What did Mahama say about NPP’s free SHS?
Meanwhile, John Dramani Mahama has refuted allegations that he would cancel the free Senior High School (SHS) program established by the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) if he becomes president.
In a Citi News report in 2020, the ex-president clarified that he has never opposed the policy. Nevertheless, he pointed out that the current method of execution has consistently posed challenges for both students and their parents.
While speaking to the King of Dagbon during a courtesy visit, Mr Mahama criticized the government for not finishing the 200-day schools initiated by his administration, resulting in the double-track system now in place under the free SHS program.
“Free Senior High School education has come to stay. If anybody tells you that I, John Dramani Mahama, son of E.A Mahama will abolish Free SHS when I come, tell the person he is a bloody liar.
“What I am against is the poor implementation of the free SHS which is creating great inconvenience for the parents, for the students and for the teachers and the point I have made is that we can make it better.”
“If this government had followed our plan of continuing with the 200 new Senior High Schools that we were building, we would not have the current situation that we have in our free SHS plan.”
