The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has announced the provisional results for the 2024 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for private candidates, revealing a significant development regarding examination malpractice cases.

According to the council, while 38,316 candidates sat for the exams, the subject results of 303 and the entire results of 108 candidates have been withheld due to suspected irregularities.

WAEC disclosed that these cases emerged during both the examination and the marking process, prompting an investigation into the affected candidates.

This development highlights the ongoing challenge of maintaining examination integrity in the country.

As WAEC continues its probe, candidates whose results have been withheld will have to wait for a final determination before knowing their fate.

The council also took the opportunity to warn the public against fraudsters who promise to alter results for a fee, urging institutions to verify results directly from WAEC’s official website.
