Blakk Rasta has criticized the voting system of the Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMAs), stating that it is flawed.
He argued that the general public should not have the sole power to choose winners, emphasizing the importance of having a board involved in the decision-making process.
In contrast, he highlighted the Grammys as an example where winners are selected through a combination of board voting and fan voting via mobile phones.
He mentioned this on Property FM, saying; “In fact, the Grammy Awards is not like that because they don’t use money in voting like the Ghana Music Awards but rather it’s the members of the academy who come and vote.
“So if they vote wrongly they blame themselves and they come out to apologize so they can go back and even collect the award and give it to the right person.
“When they award somebody wrongly and they realize their mistake they can go back to do the right thing and it has happened before so check the history.
“So that’s what it is we just want the awards system to get better and every award that we pay money to vote is thievery and not really an award,” he opined.
Blakk Rasta’s statement is accurate. Our investigations reveal that once the nominations have been finalized and made public, voting members of the Academy cast their votes in a maximum of ten categories, spanning across three Fields within the genre Fields.
Additionally, they also vote in the four categories of the General Field to determine the ultimate winners. In order to maintain the integrity of the voting process, members are instructed to only vote in the Fields where they possess expertise and are peers of the nominees.
