Ghanaian entertainment pundit Vida Adutwumwaa, speaking on UTV’s United Showbiz on January 11, 2025, called for the government to kickstart consistent cultural and creative arts events starting in February, with a special focus on Ghana Month in March.
According to Adutwumwaa, this is the perfect time for the administration to engage Ghanaians with events that celebrate the country’s rich cultural heritage and national identity.
“If we can spare them for the month of January, from February going they should be able to organise something,” Adutwumwaa suggested. “Especially in the month of March since it is Ghana Month.”
March, being Ghana Month, marks the anniversary of the country’s independence, and Adutwumwaa sees it as an opportunity to spotlight the nation’s arts, culture, and history through well-coordinated events.
Her comments come at a time when the creative arts sector, which was significantly boosted during the Year of Return and Beyond the Return initiatives, is looking to maintain momentum.
Adutwumwaa’s call reflects public expectations for the new administration, led by President John Dramani Mahama, to build upon the achievements of the past government while adding fresh initiatives to sustain and grow the industry.
She stressed the need for the Ministry of Tourism, Arts, and Culture to play a central role in organizing monthly events that could engage local and international audiences.
