The University of Education, Winneba (UEW) has officially withdrawn several Level 100 students due to their inability to meet the academic requirements set by the institution.
A memorandum issued by the Head of Department (HOD) of Social Studies Education, Dr. Mohammed Adam, dated March 7, 2025, outlined the decision.
According to the statement, the affected students failed to attain the minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 1.0 or failed more than the permissible number of courses as per Section 4.2.1 of the Revised Undergraduate Students Handbook (2019).
This decision came after an audit and review of their academic performance across the first and second semesters of the 2023/2024 academic year.
The memorandum emphasized that the students had received counselling prior to their withdrawal.
As a result of their dismissal, they are ineligible to attend Level 200 lectures or participate in mid-semester and end-of-semester examinations for Level 200 courses. Faculty members were urged to update their course registers to reflect the withdrawal of these students.
A list accompanying the memorandum details the names, index numbers, and CGPA of the withdrawn students, with most of them having a CGPA below 1.0. A few students were also withdrawn for trailing more than three courses within the academic year, further reinforcing UEW’s strict academic policies
