On a lively episode of the Rants, Bants, and Confessions podcast, host Gisela Ama Amponsah, joined by Efia Odo and Princess, delved into a controversial topic that had listeners talking: is it a red flag if a man sends an Uber to pick you up on a first date?
Efia Odo wasted no time setting the tone for the discussion. “If he doesn’t have a car, we wouldn’t even be having this conversation because he wouldn’t exist in my dating pool,” she declared unapologetically.
She admitted that her standards had shifted over the years, emphasizing, “I’m at a stage where I need a man with a car. It’s not about being materialistic—it’s about comfort.”
Princess agreed, reflecting on her own experiences. “In the past, maybe during my university days, I wouldn’t have minded. But now, I want someone who can match my lifestyle. When your car breaks down, you need a partner who can step in, not someone who leaves you stranded or tells you to hail an Uber.”
The women highlighted cultural differences, pointing out that while rideshare services like Uber are convenient in other countries, the experience in Ghana often falls short.

“In places like New York or Europe, where Teslas and Mercedes-Benz are part of the Uber fleet, I wouldn’t mind. But here? The Ubers are uncomfortable, and even the drivers sometimes make things awkward,” Efia added, laughing about past encounters.
The conversation took an intriguing turn when Gisela asked whether it was romantic for a man to drive his date himself.
Both Efia and Princess agreed, with the latter saying, “I don’t want to drive to a date and back home. I want us to be in the same car, sharing that moment. It’s about the effort and the connection.”
The debate didn’t stop there. The trio ventured into broader relationship topics, including the dynamics of having a “female best friend” and even sharing some risqué stories that kept the episode buzzing with energy.
The podcast episode has since sparked heated discussions online, with many weighing in on whether the absence of a car should be a dealbreaker in modern dating.
For Efia, Princess, and Gisela, the message was clear: it’s less about materialism and more about meeting personal standards and preferences.
