The Trades Union Congress (TUC) has expressed dissatisfaction over the government’s recent 10 percent wage increase for public sector workers, insisting that a higher adjustment is necessary to meet economic realities.
“Nobody is okay with whatever the government gave to us. We accepted it on condition that we will be going for another negotiation around April and once that is done, we can then add more to what we have already acquired by having this negotiation with government,” said Bernard Owusu, Chairman of the TUC, in an interview on the Channel One Newsroom.
Despite accepting the new wage adjustment, which is set to take effect on March 1, 2025, TUC leaders maintain that they will continue pushing for their original demand of a 30 percent increase during upcoming negotiations in April.

Owusu made it clear that while the union had agreed to the current increment, it was far from satisfied with the outcome.
“So nobody is happy about that because we could have gotten more but this is what the government is saying—that yes, we can give you ten percent because of the conditions that we came to meet,” he added.
