Tinny Gave Me More Than Money – Shatta Wale Talks

Shatta Wale has always been open about the highs and lows of his career.

One of the defining moments of his rise to fame was a chance encounter with fellow artist Tinny, who played a significant role in Shatta Wale’s early days in the music industry.

On a recent episode of the Time with Hammer podcast, Shatta Wale opened up about how Tinny, a respected name in Ghanaian music, helped him during his most challenging times.

“I was on the streets in Labadi, staying with some friends when Tinny met me,” Shatta Wale shared, reminiscing about the days before fame.

“He listened to my song and then came to look for me at my house. That was like my second breakthrough.”

Labadi, a vibrant yet humble neighborhood, was far from the world of stardom, and for Shatta Wale, this encounter was a defining moment.

He was still struggling to make a name for himself, and the recognition from someone like Tinny felt like a sign that he was on the right path.

After that pivotal meeting, Tinny took Shatta Wale under his wing, guiding him through the early stages of his music career.

“He took me to the studio after that. From there, he became like a godfather to me,” Shatta Wale continued. Tinny’s support was not just professional; it was personal.

“Tinny was the only person that, when I was broke back then, gave me money. He bought me a Blackberry when it was launched, bought things from America for me,” he recalled with gratitude.

At a time when Shatta Wale was struggling to make ends meet, Tinny’s generosity provided much-needed relief.

Shatta Wale was candid about his past habits, including his heavy smoking.

“Those times, he could give me like $500 and sometimes $1000. I used to smoke a lot back then, so he gave me the money, and I used it to get the things for smoking,” he admitted.

Despite his challenges, Tinny’s mentorship and support helped him navigate the tough early days of his career.

However, as time went on and Shatta Wale’s career grew, so did his personal transformation.

“But now that I have my own money, I barely smoke,” he reflected, highlighting not only his financial success but also his personal growth.

The shift from relying on others to now being in a position to support himself—and others—has been a significant part of his journey.
