A Ghanaian pundit made an appearance on Pluzz FM to discuss how Nigerians have surpassed Ghanaians in the music industry, establishing themselves as the giants of Africa and beyond.
He highlighted that Ghanaian music used to dominate the African music scene to the extent that even MTV came down to shoot a music video for rapper Tic Tac, who was one of the most prominent artists of that era.
Furthermore, he mentioned that when Ghanaian songs were gaining popularity in Nigeria, D’Banj expressed interest in being featured on Tic Tac’s massive hit Fefe Nefe
However, at that time, D’Banj was not as well-known, so Tic Tac overlooked him and instead collaborated with Tony Tetuila.
Ultimately, the discussion revolved around how Ghanaians can regain their former glory and make a mark in the music and film industries.
As a solution, he recommended that the government should invest in supporting creative individuals.
Tic Tac’s Fefe N’efe was so huge that Wizkid sampled the song without permission from Tic Tac and Tony Tetuila.
As a result, the duo filed a lawsuit against Wizkid in 2019 for copyright infringement of their popular 2004 track.
Tetuila confirmed the news in a post saying, “ I just want to clear the air as I am hearing things coming Ghana. Yes, it is true that myself and Tic from Ghana (formerly known as Tic Tac) are both suing Wizkid and DJ Tunez at the Nigerian Federal High Court for violating our intellectual property rights from our song Fefe N’ efe. Our lawyers have advised us not to say more than that. Thank you. Tony Tetuila”.
