Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has praised Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, describing her as a symbol of hope and progress for young girls across the country.
In a Facebook post, Ablakwa highlighted the significance of her role beyond mere representation, emphasizing the inspiration it brings to future generations.
“A refreshing change to our ceremonial outlook, but this is not just ceremonial—this represents hope for our daughters,” he wrote.
Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang is a Ghanaian academic, politician, and former Minister of Education.

She made history in 2020 as the first female running mate of a major political party in Ghana when she was selected as the vice-presidential candidate for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) alongside John Dramani Mahama.
Before venturing into politics, she had a distinguished career in academia. She was the first female Vice-Chancellor of the University of Cape Coast (UCC) and is known for her contributions to education and gender advocacy.
As Education Minister from 2013 to 2017, she played a key role in policies such as the free distribution of textbooks, the abolition of teacher trainee allowances, and improvements in the educational sector.
