Nigerian actress Kate Henshaw has sparked a debate on X following a comment she made in response to a young woman’s controversial preference for dating a man involved in fraud over one with a legitimate job.
During an interview with a vlogger, the young woman was asked to choose between a “Yahoo boy” and a working-class man.
The term “Yahoo boy” refers to internet fraudsters who engage in various online scams, often using popular email services like Yahoo to defraud unsuspecting victims.
The young woman chose the Yahoo boy, explaining that they take girls out clubbing and provide for them, whereas a working-class man would expect her to stay home and cook. Reacting to the video, Kate Henshaw commented, “Na so dem go take pieces you for ritual. Yeye mindset.”

This statement ignited a firestorm on X, with many users criticizing Henshaw for allegedly justifying femicide. On the other hand, some defended the actress, arguing that she was merely warning young women about the potential dangers of dating fraudsters.
“Yahoo Yahoo” is a term commonly used in Nigeria to describe internet fraudsters who engage in online scams to defraud people of their money.
These fraudsters, often referred to as “Yahoo boys,” use various tactics such as phishing emails, fake online profiles, and other deceitful means to swindle their victims.
The term “Yahoo boy” originates from the popular email service Yahoo, which was frequently used by these fraudsters in the early days of internet scams.
