Martha Ankomah has emphasized that she has not featured in any Kumawood movie due to her careful evaluation of storylines before accepting roles.
This indicates that she has not received any scripts that align with her criteria. She shared this insight during a recent interview on Accra 100.5 FM’s Entertainment Capital, where she was questioned about her absence from Kumawood productions.
“It is when you’re contracted that you take up a gig. And sometimes, also, you need to examine the storyline and the script. If I read the story and I don’t like it, I wouldn’t want to be part of it. Otherwise, why not, I’ll jump on it,” she said.
The host probed if she had ever been offered a Kumawood gig before. In response, the actress said, “As I told you, the storyline is most important to me.”
Subsequently, she referenced a period when she worked on a film in Kumasi, located in the Ashanti Region, which is the heart of Kumawood.
“Some time ago, it’s been quite a while, I travelled with Sammy [Rasta], the movie director – he wears dreadlocks, and works with Radio XYZ – to Kumasi, to work on a movie,” the entrepreneur said, rhetorically asking: “Did I not shoot the movie in Kumasi? It’s all about the storyline.”
Additionally, Martha noted that Netflix partners with, finances, and showcases Nigerian films in Yoruba and Igbo, complete with subtitles. She emphasized that the storyline remains paramount.
“It’s all about the storyline, is it not? It’s all about the picture quality. It’s all about the production,” she added.
The discussion clearly revolved around the controversy stemming from Lilwin’s criticism of her decision not to participate in her film A Country Called Ghana, which led to a lawsuit and a series of dramatic events.
