Ashanti and Nelly’s journey from music collaborators to life partners has taken fans on a deeply personal ride, recently culminating in a heartfelt celebration at Ashanti’s golden-themed 50th birthday bash at Tao in Las Vegas.
After more than a decade-long history marked by a break-up, a reconnection, and the quiet start of a family, the two music icons shared intimate glimpses of their relationship—one that is now cherished as much for its growth as for its second chances.
In attendance were friends, family, and special guests, including comedian Kevin Hart, adding to the lively, star-studded night.
Reflecting on turning 50, Nelly shared his thoughts with ET, joking that it felt like turning 49 again but with even greater meaning. He spoke admiringly of Ashanti, who stood by him at the event, referring to her as his “soulmate.”

Their long-standing friendship has deepened into a connection that Ashanti described as irreplaceable. “It’s priceless, honestly, just to have my soulmate—my person, my best friend, my protector,” she said with gratitude. “The universe doesn’t make mistakes.”
With Ashanti at 44, the couple is embracing what they’ve learned over the years, each bringing maturity and grace to their relationship.
Ashanti shared a bit of her own self-reflection, noting, “I don’t tell him all the time, but I’ve learned a lot about being grateful, graceful, and giving people grace. Being open-minded, level-headed, and not too emotional,” offering a sense of peace and wisdom to their partnership.
They rekindled their romance in September last year after nearly ten years apart and have since quietly built a life together, even welcoming a son, Kareem, this July.
Their reunion wasn’t just a romantic revival but a blending of life goals, dreams, and shared family values. Nelly, while reveling in his role as a new father, humorously touched on the realities of parenting: “He’s a boy, and I’ve had boys, but you’re changing them.
“You have to duck, and I’ve been peed on so much!” Laughing, he added, “I can’t wait to show him some pictures and videos one day—like, ‘Look at what your mom was doing to you.’ She treats him like a Build-A-Bear.”
