Gospel musician and wife of Ghanaian politician Hopeson Adorye, Empress Gifty has opened up about the daunting reality of threats targeting her husband and the toll it has taken on her family.
Gifty disclosed in a new interview that the threats have surged since her husband’s recent departure from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to join Alan Kyerematen’s new ‘Movement for Change.’
This decision has placed Adorye under intense scrutiny, with some supporters viewing the move as a betrayal.

As a result, he has faced a wave of backlash, particularly from those who remain loyal to the NPP. “I always receive a lot of calls from people threatening to take the life of my husband,” Gifty revealed in a candid interview, underscoring the gravity of the situation.
She explained that these threats are relentless, with individuals going so far as to convey their anger directly to her, leaving her in a state of constant vigilance.
The musician shared how her faith has become a bedrock of strength as she navigates the stressful circumstances surrounding her husband’s career. “You need to have spiritual backing,” she said, elaborating that prayer and spiritual fortitude help her endure the anxieties brought on by her husband’s work.
Despite the emotionally taxing situation, Gifty emphasized her proactive approach to handling these challenges: “When I see or hear these things, I try my best to attack it from the spiritual side by praying.” Her commitment to shielding her family from negative forces reflects her resilience and deep belief in the power of faith.
A striking contrast emerges between Adorye’s public image and the man Gifty knows at home. According to her, he is a quiet, peace-loving individual who rarely raises his voice, much less engages in confrontations.
“My husband is a peaceful person who barely talks at home,” she shared, painting a picture of a man deeply different from the often assertive figure seen in political forums and media.
“If you hear him talking, it’s because he’s calling to say he’s hungry,” she added, highlighting how public perceptions can often misrepresent the true character of political figures.
Adorye’s move to the Movement for Change is emblematic of the shifting allegiances within Ghana’s political scene, especially as political figures weigh personal convictions against party loyalty.
