Here’s a breakdown of President John Dramani Mahama’s reduction in the number of public sector ministries, cutting the total from 30 to 23.

The move, which sees some ministries eliminated and others merged with related bodies, is designed to enhance efficiency and ensure the effective delivery of government services.

Here are the seven ministries that have been scrapped or merged:

Ministry of Information: This ministry no longer exists, as its functions have been transferred to the Ministry of Communication, Digital Technology, and Innovations.

Ministry of Water and Sanitation: This ministry has been dissolved and integrated into the Ministry of Works, Housing, and Water Resources.

Ministry of Railways: This ministry has been completely abolished.

Ministry of Works and Housing: This ministry is no longer independent, as it has been merged with Water Resources to form the Ministry of Works, Housing, and Water Resources.

Ministry of National Security: The Mahama government has deemed this ministry irrelevant and decided to abolish it.

Ministry of Youth and Sports: This ministry has been split into two separate entities; the Ministry of Sports and Recreation, and the Ministry of Youth Development and Empowerment.

Ministry of Chieftaincy: This ministry was considered insignificant and will now fall under the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy, and Religious Affairs.
